Moscow HIV Prevention Week “Moscow against AIDS!

As part of the Stop HIV/AIDS All-Russian campaign, the Moscow HIV Prevention Week Moscow against AIDS! Common Sense Territory ”dedicated to World AIDS Day May 13-19, 2019

Every third Sunday of May, the whole world celebrates World AIDS Day. Over the thirty-year history of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, more than 40 million infected people have died.

Despite the fact that a lot of success has been achieved in the fight against this disease, both in science and in practical health care, the problem of HIV infection is still a global one.

The population of large cities is mainly affected by HIV. This is motivated by a number of objective factors: the presence of large transport hubs, internal and external migration, and a high population density.

In the Russian capital, a confidently controlled and more favorable level of the HIV epidemic situation has been achieved in comparison with many megalopolises of developed countries, as well as other regions of Russia. According to official statistics, the prevalence rate in Moscow is lower than the national average and five times less than the most unfavorable infection regions of Siberia and the Urals.

Moreover, the Moscow HIV/AIDS response service significantly exceeds the targets set for the Russian regions by the State Strategy for Combating the Spread of HIV Infection (in particular, in terms of coverage of antiretroviral therapy).

The number of people tested for HIV antibodies in the city of Moscow is increasing annually. In 2018, 5 423 556 people were screened for HIV, which corresponds to 43.4% of the population.

A stabilization of the epidemic process and a decrease in the number of new HIV cases have been achieved in the city.

As of January 1, 2019, the number of patients with HIV infection under clinical supervision at AIDS MHC is 33 951 people, of which 20 209 patients received antiretroviral therapy, which amounted to 60% of the number of people registered in the dispensary, which corresponds to the regulated target.

Particular success has been achieved in the prevention of perinatal transmission of HIV infection. Relevant activities are carried out in

medical organizations of the capital since 2001. The city regulates the algorithm for diagnosing HIV in pregnant women and women in labor with the use of rapid testing, establishes interaction between medical obstetric organizations, screening laboratories for diagnosing HIV infection and MHC AIDS. As a result, the risk of perinatal HIV infection in the city of Moscow is less than 1%, which in fact allows us to talk about achieving the highest possible result for modern health care.

Moscow Healthcare was the first in Russia to introduce into practice the practice of preventing occupational HIV infection of medical workers. Currently, the developed algorithms are the basis of all regulatory documents in force in the Russian Federation on this issue. For the entire period of monitoring HIV infection since 1987, data on HIV infection in employees of medical organizations subordinate to the Moscow City Health Department were not registered in providing medical care.

Within the framework of the Promotion, during the whole week it will be possible to undergo free, including anonymous testing in HIV prevention rooms and get expert advice. Residents of Moscow can also ask questions by calling the 24-hour Hotline of the Moscow City Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS (8-495-366-62-38) or on the Center’s website (spid.ru, Question and Answer information line) .
